The article presents the development of high-speed rail in Great Britain in the years 2002–2020. The assessment of the development of high-speed rail was preceded by a short description of the country, transport structure and economic development based on basic macroeconomic variables. The collected material also made it possible to determine the trends in shaping the transport intensity of the UK economy on the basis of curves developed using the 6th degree polynomial and the exponential function. In the summary, apart from the effects of the development of high-speed rail, development plans and methods of financing are discussed. The article is based on the authors' own thoughts and research as well as on factual sources indicated in footnotes..
